Our Local Expert: Eniko in Budapest

March 10, 2014
Urban Adventures

For International Women’s Day on March 8th, we’re talking travel to some of our female guides around the world. Today we’re having a chat to Eniko in Budapest!

What is your best travel memory?

It’s always my last travel experience that seems to be the best, so I have to mention our last journey that took us to Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. The smiles of the people we met and the fabulously delicious food we tasted were what I enjoyed the most. But the most fascinating experience of all the journeys I’ve taken is swimming with dolphins in Cienfuegos, Cuba.

Why did you start working in travel?

It was kind of an accident but I have enjoyed travel for as long as I can remember. I am eager to learn, to meet people, to teach, and to share. And I enjoy travelling, so from the basis I have something common with the people I work for and with.

What is your favourite part about working with Urban Adventures?

Meeting the travellers, and sharing parts of our lives that would otherwise be unknown to them. As Urban Adventures is a global brand, we’re familiar and people trust us, which means we can take them to all kinds of nooks and crannies in our city!

If you could live and work in any other UA city, where would it be and why?

It would be Hanoi. I really liked Vietnam and enjoyed the city of Hanoi. People are kind, the food is excellent (I cook Vietnamese a lot at home as well), and the nature in the surrounding areas is beautiful. Or Chiang Mai in Thailand, for the same reasons.

If you had to give a visitor one tip about your city, what would it be?

Check the Sunday morning farmer’s market at Szimpla. This is the city’s first ruin bar but once a week it changes function as well as the people it caters to. Guys and girls from last night’s party, families with kids, and elderly locals wander around to find the best bites. You can buy your favorite goat cheese while sipping elderberry syrup with soda and listening to live jazz music performed by local musicians. I can’t really explain why but Sunday mornings always have a special atmosphere there.

Where in the world (other than your own city!) would you go to:

Get cultured? Paris.

Escape? Northern Laos.

Eat amazing food? Anywhere in Vietnam or Thailand.

See some wildlife? Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.

Get some sun? Cuba.

Enjoy the great outdoors? Northern Italy.
