La Alpargata Vegana is right in the heart of one of our favourite markets, the Mercado de San Idelfonso, where a plethora of food stands are each as good as the next. Vegan travellers should sit down at La Alpargata Vegana and try delicious Spanish tortilla, croquettes or salmorejo soup, whilst soaking up the vibrant market atmosphere.

La Colectiva Café is an ideal spot for a calm start to your day well away from the touristy spots in the city centre.  The coffee is good, the food is plentiful and the atmosphere is relaxed, with a menu including veggie bowls, yogurt and fruit, vegan burgers and toast with avocado. With ample seating downstairs as well as by the bar this is a great place to kick off your day with a healthy breakfast/brunch.

Delish Vegan Donuts. Time for a break or a snack after a day of sightseeing? How about coffee and a treat? Delish Vegan Donuts will curb your sweet tooth craving. These donuts come in much bigger sizes than your regular donut so you are definitely getting your money’s worth! They adapt the fillings and flavours depending on the season. Never has a Delish Donut disappointed me, and that’s a fact. The donuts are a crowd pleaser and will be a treat for both vegans and non-vegans. Follow them on Instagram at @delishvegandonuts for a mouth-watering addition to your Instagram feed.

La Encomienda changes its menu regularly to cater to the seasons. Not only is everything on the menu vegan, the majority of the food served here is also gluten free! The staff are incredibly friendly and very understanding of non-vegans too, as they were when my mother and I visited and she was not sure what to order. Right on the border between La Latina and Lavapies, La Encomienda is located on a pretty little street, tucked away from the noisy hustle and bustle of both neighborhoods. It’s the perfect little spot to stop at before heading to some of the fun, neighbouring bars!

Metro: Tirso de Molina/ La Latina – Calle Encomienda, 19 28012

Mama Elba has a wide range of vegan-friendly ice-creams and cookies that are sure to satisfy. They also offer plenty of gluten free and sugar free options. The staff is always friendly and it always smells of chocolate or some other deliciously fresh bake.
