The annual #streetfood50 Awards recognise the top street food vendors around the globe, handpicked by Urban Adventures’ own local guides-in-the-know. Local restaurant Al-Dkedek received top accolades from our Jerusalem tour guides for the best street food in Jerusalem in 2018, for its hummus, msabaha and ful recipes.
Often, when it comes to truly memorable food, the kind you can’t stop thinking about long after cleaning your plate, it’s the simplest dishes that can have the most impact. Case in point: digging into fresh hummus, msabaha (chickpeas, oil and lemon) and ful (mashed fava beans) in Jerusalem’s Old Town at Al-Dkedek Restaurant in Souk Al Khawajat, a business that is now over 70 years old.
The restaurant is run by the brothers whose father established the business all those decades ago and who are now continuing their father’s culinary legacy. One of the brothers notes that this particular dish is a traditional one that resonates with the people who frequent the Old City. If it’s authentic comfort food you crave, made in a way that highlights both fresh ingredients and traditional methods, this is the place for you.
