Best Street Food in Los Angeles: Villa Moreliana

One of the best street foods around are tacos. Sure, they can be messy but they’re also fast, fresh, and can be easily eaten standing up. If you’re looking for the real deal – and you happen to find yourself in LA – get yourself to Villa Moreliana in the city’s iconic Grand Central Market. This spot, who describe themselves as an authentic carnitas specialist, serve up slow-cooked pork the way it’s prepared in Michoacan, Mexico, the traditional birthplace of carnitas tacos. The low-key market eatery has been turning out tacos (and other Mexican specialties) since 2008 and they aren’t slowing down. Expect a line, but the wait is worth it for authentic flavours, ultra-tender meat and fast, friendly service.

Tacos come without toppings, but you can dress yours at the condiment bar once you get your order with a variety of hot sauces and salsas for a spicy kick. And come hungry – Villa Moreliana doesn’t skimp on taco fillings (or any portion sizes). Depending on when you visit, sample tacos are often given out to hungry customers waiting in line (even after you’ve already ordered). Once you bite in, you’ll realize why so many people keep coming back here time and again.
